Chapter 12

“Why are you limping?” Keith’s brother, Reed, eyeballed him while he tried to walk normally to his chair.

“I’m not limping.”

“Yeah, you’re definitely limping.”

“I might have pulled a muscle.”

Keith eased himself slowly behind his desk. The rocks behind the waterfall had been a little more slippery than he’d anticipated. He hadn’t been paying attention to where he was walking and had fallen right on his ass. His legs might have still been a bit shaky from the best damn lovemaking in the history of the world. Just saying. On the bright side, Sabrina had landed on top of him instead of getting squashed underneath him.

“Doing what, exactly? You had the morning off.”

There was no way he was telling Reed what he’d been doing. Or who had been doing him. Part of him wanted to tell his brother how his life had changed today, but he didn’t want to disrespect Sabrina. Keith wanted to skywrite it or yell it from the roof tops, but that wouldn’t be very gentlemanly. Hell, if he hadn’t been limping, there was a good chance he would have skipped or floated in to work.

“Must have happened when I took Sammy for a walk.”

“That dog doesn’t walk. He waddles. I think you did it taking Sabrina for a walk.”

“How did you know about Sabrina?”

“Who doesn’t know about you and Sabrina?” Reed stared at him shrewdly. “You’ve been seen everywhere around town with her.”

“We haven’t been everywhere. What have people been saying?” With the way the Madison Falls gossip mill turned out information, certain facts got embellished and not always in a nice way. “It better not be anything bad or I’ll grab the first person…”

Reed held his hands up in a placating gesture. “Keith, dude, chill out. All they’re saying is that thanks to a cute little redhead, you’re off the market.”

“As long as it’s not mean gossip, I don’t care.” He was surprised they hadn’t been spotted at the Falls. They hadn’t, had they?

“So is it true? Did you finally wear her down?”

“That’s what I’d like to know.” Dot Sutton strolled into the office like she owned the joint, which Keith supposed, technically, she and their dad did. Since Jack Sutton retired, Reed was left in charge of management. He brought Ben Carrington in to co-manage Sutton Construction over a year or so ago. The position had initially been offered to Keith as well, but he preferred to work more on site than in the office. Ben’s honeymoon had changed things up for a while.

Jack, an older more barrel-shaped version of Reed, came in right behind her. “What rumor are we talking about now?” Their dad normally didn’t pay much attention to that kind of thing. He preferred fish to people most days.

Since Sabrina agreed that they were in fact a couple now, Keith didn’t see the problem in telling his family. “Sabrina and I are…” How to explain it? “We’re…uh…”

Dot helped him out. “Dating?” She actually sounded hopeful.

“Sure.” They’d had more than a few meals together so he thought those counted as dates.
